Over the years, The Village at Kelly Drive and Devers Elementary School have cultivated a great relationship, resulting in both residents and students participating in various fun events together. On April 5, residents hosted a springtime Easter event, which included outdoor games, a visit from the Easter bunny and treats for over 120 fifth- and sixth-graders. The following day, 70 kindergartners arrived at Kelly Drive to sing songs, visit residents of the personal care residence and meet the Easter bunny. A big thank you to residents Jan Schellhase and Cliff Billet for spearheading this project and to everyone else for the support, donations and preparations that went into this egg-cellent event!

Congrats, grads! A group of residential living residents at The Village at Kelly Drive graduated from their Healthy Steps in Motion program! Over eight weeks, students participated in group exercises classes that focused on building strength and flexibility and underscored ways to stay healthy, happy and free of falls! Following the final class, participants enjoyed a celebratory graduation lunch. A big thank you and congratulations to Lauren Eriksen, life enrichment director, and Linda Leroux, RL nurse navigator, who were certified by the York County Area Agency on Aging to teach this class!
A special day full of great food, laughs and celebrating love! Residential living couples celebrated Valentine’s Day with a special couples lunch. The menu featured seafood bisque in a bread bowl, brisket ala vodka, mashed redskin potatoes, roasted asparagus finished off with a delicious red velvet cake topped with a chocolate covered strawberry. Following the meal, couples shared their advice for a happy marriage and answered some Newlywed Game-type questions about their partners.
Residents at The Village at Kelly Drive created a special nature space featuring flowers, bird feeders and a bird bath around a favorite gazebo and patio area. Residents of the personal care residence nurtured the flowers and herbs from seeds. The residential living garden group planted the flowers into raised garden beds and watered them all summer long. In the fall, residential living residents organized a service project to weed and prepare the area for spring.

Marvin “Buzz” Marsteller, a resident at The Village at Kelly Drive, has played enough golf to know that you occasionally get caught in an unforgiving sand trap or don’t hit a shot as square you would have liked. That was not the case, however, during a recent round with his golfing buddies at Briarwood Golf Club, Marvin scored a near-career-best 76! He is 91 years old and has played the sport for more than 70 years. Despite the inevitable aches and pains that come later in life, Marvin golfs once or twice a week and does some form of exercise every day. Congratulations on your near-career-best, Marvin!
The produce stand from The Village at Sprenkle Drive was set up outside the entrance of The Village at Kelly Drive so residents and team members could enjoy fresh, locally grown produce! Each spring through early September, residents at The Village at Sprenkle Drive volunteer their time to prepare the community garden for planting, nurture the plants and harvest the produce. Proceeds from the market are donated to SpiriTrust Lutheran® and local non-profit agencies.
What a fun afternoon for a seafood boil fest outdoors under the big tent! Residents at The Village at Kelly Drive enjoyed cream of crab soup in a bread boule, a mix of littleneck clams, jumbo shrimp, snow crab legs and sausage accompanied by local sweet corn and fingerling potatoes all steamed together and served family style. Dessert was a fresh local peach shortcake, washed down with peach sangria. The talented dining team hit it out of the park with this meal!
