Volunteer Opportunities in Your Community

Residential Living

Bistro Volunteer
If providing great customer service is something you enjoy, then consider assisting the Dining Services team at The Fleck Center Bistro as they serve residents, staff and visitors Monday through Friday during lunch hours. Responsibilities include taking food orders, processing payments and delivering orders to customer’s tables. A desire to interact with people, the ability to pay attention to details and a caring attitude is a must.

Card Makers
Volunteers make birthday, greeting and holiday cards for residents.  Cards are delivered to residents on a regular basis.

Clerical/Office
These volunteers assist office staff with a variety of duties which may include filing, making copies, folding, stapling and shredding. The ability to follow directions and attention to detail is a must for this position.

Dog Walker
Volunteers walk dogs for residential living residents with physical limitations/challenges.  Dogs must be walked on campus by leash.

Friendly Visitor
Residents love having visitors and making new friends. Therefore, volunteers who serve as friendly visitors fill an important role by providing friendship and support while visiting with assigned residents on a regular basis. Depending on their needs, this could also include reading to the resident, writing letters, card playing, putting a puzzle together, painting fingernails and going for a walk.  If you enjoy spending time getting to know others and have a good listening ear, you would be perfect for this position.

Hydration Cart Volunteer
These volunteers play a very important role by assisting the nursing staff with providing residents with fresh water and other seasonal beverages during afternoon hours. Residents love seeing a friendly face behind the cart and look forward to not only the refreshing beverages, but also to some welcomed conversation. Again, this is a fantastic way to spread some love and get to know each resident.

Life Enrichment Volunteer
Life Enrichment volunteers assist Life Enrichment team members by leading or helping residents to participate in games, crafts and other programs.  If you are a “crafty” person or enjoy playing bingo or card and board games, this opportunity could be for you. It’s also a relaxing way to have some fun and get to know residents.

Music Volunteer
Pianists, vocalists and musicians of all kinds are invited to share their musical gifts. Music volunteers provide vocal or instrumental programs to residents during Sunday evening or Thursday afternoon worship services; or perform and play at parties, special events and lead group sing-a-longs.

Off-site Escort
These volunteers provide an essential service by accompanying residents and team members on off-campus outings, such as group trips to concerts, restaurants, theatre productions, doctor appointments and more. Duties may include assisting residents to and from their rooms to the van or bus, assisting with meal ordering and walking with residents to the restroom. Spending time with residents during these trips provides a great opportunity to get to know them better.

Pet Therapy
These volunteers bring trained pets to visit with residents on a regular basis.  They provide a safe opportunity for residents to touch and interact with the pet.

Seamstress
Seamstress volunteers spend time mending clothes, hemming pants, sewing on buttons and assisting with other sewing projects. A caring attitude and the ability to sew by hand or machine is a must.

Shopping Assistant
These volunteers provide much needed assistance to residents while on shopping trips to grocery and department stores. Duties include locating items, helping read labels, carrying bags, going through check-out and getting on and off the bus or van. Assisting residents on these trips helps them to feel comfortable and confident while providing the volunteer with a wonderful opportunity to get to know them better.

Technology Volunteer
Volunteers assist residents with using their personal electronic devices.  Responsibilities include activating or deactivating devices, demonstrating navigational tools, adjusting settings, teaching keyboard and texting, teaching how to connect to the internet, explaining email setup and how to send and respond to messages, etc.

Worship Volunteer
If you enjoy attending church and are looking for a way to help residents stay connected to their faith, then becoming a worship assistant may be right for you. Worship volunteers assist with Sunday evening and Thursday afternoon worship services at The Village at Luther Ridge. Duties may include escorting residents to and from services, passing out bulletins and hymnals, assisting with seating residents, collecting offerings and assisting with communion, if necessary.
