Shake, rattle and roll at the sock hop! Residential living residents from our community gathered together with residential living residents at The Village at Utz Terrace for a sock hop to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association. From the old-fashioned decorations and records, to the coke floats, the Terrace Overlook Restaurant was completely transformed for this 1950s event. After a delicious dinner of burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings and sodas, residents hit the dance floor dressed in their best 1950s outfits! Residents were entered into a drawing for the "best dressed" and many prizes were awarded to sock hop attendees. What a fun night of dancing, classic tunes and yummy eats! Kudos to the Life Enrichment team for orchestrating this fun event. It was a blast!

A trip to the York County Resource Recovery Center! Residential living residents at The Village at Shrewsbury recently embarked on an informative trip to the York County Resource Recovery Center. The tour consisted of an orientation session in the Education Center, followed by a walking tour of the main areas of the waste-to-energy facility. It was an illuminating trip for residents, who learned how the facility uses O’Connor Rotary Combustion technology to convert municipal solid waste into a smaller volume of ash and produce enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes!
Residents at The Village at Shrewsbury had the opportunity to meet potbelly pigs at Whispering Rise Farm & Animal Sanctuary (WRFAS). WRFAS has a mission “to provide sanctuary for surrendered and rescued potbelly pigs who are products of the pet pig trade and to educate the public about them,” according to its website. The six-acre sanctuary is home to more than 60 pigs and relies on volunteers to help feed and maintain the property.

With a bit of luck and a little wind, residential living residents at The Village at Shrewsbury put their paper airplane designs to the test. Interested residents were invited to create two paper airplanes to enter into a competition to see which plane could go the furthest. Congratulations to Mary Jane Ward whose “stingray” paper airplane came in first place!
