The “It Takes a Village” carnival at The Village at Sprenkle Drive started off with a splash! Residents and team members took turns taking aim and firing fastballs at the target to dunk members of the leadership team, including Jeff Cowoski, director of Dining Services! The carnival, which in addition to the dunk tank included games, a cookout, popcorn and cotton candy, was held to celebrate and show appreciation for residents and team members.
Residential living residents enjoyed an afternoon tea party! They had tea cakes, cookies, cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, pitas with hummus, toast with roasted veggie spread and an assortment of danishes. A big thank you to the life enrichment team and dining services team for orchestrating and preparing the yummy food for this exquisite tea party!
Residential living residents at The Village at Sprenkle Drive embarked on a guided tour of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. During this outing, residents toured the Capitol, learned about its history and viewed the beautiful architecture and detailed artwork in the complex.
Residents and team members enjoyed the Build Your Own Banana Split event to celebrate Banana Split Day!
Edith Virginia Bulman, a resident at the skilled care center at The Village at Sprenkle Drive, celebrated her 100th birthday in August. Surrounded by her son, Michael Knill and his wife, Marty, along with friends, fellow residents and caregivers, Edith wore a “100” tiara and a “100 & Fabulous” sash as everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to her and wished her well. A former dairy farmer and police officer, Edith credits her faith, hard work and “living a good life” for her longevity. Happy Birthday, Edith!
The garden market is open for the season! About a dozen resident volunteers from The Village at Sprenkle Drive volunteer their time to prepare the community garden for planting, nurture the plans, harvest the produce and staff the market. Proceeds from the market are donated to SpiriTrust Lutheran and local non-profit agencies.

The Independent Living Council at The Village at Sprenkle Drive extended its “deep appreciation and gratitude” to team members for all they have done to help residents overcome the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The residents dressed in medieval costumes and council members read a proclamation and "knighted" team members for their exemplary service. “Our lives would have been much more burdensome, sometimes even grueling, without your care and assistance, all of you,” the proclamation read. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!”

Bocce is one of the most widely played games in the world and residents who had not previously played quickly caught on. As participants honed their strategy with guidance from the instructors, the competition was friendly but spirited throughout the afternoon!

Residential living residents at The Village at Sprenkle Drive created a collection of clever and spooky gourds during a pumpkin decorating program. Residents showed you do not need to carve a pumpkin to create an eye-popping showpiece!

While beach volleyball is one of the most popular Olympic sports, balloon volleyball is the sport of choice for residents of The Village at Sprenkle Drive assisted living residence! The spirited but friendly competition was part of Beach Day. Not only did residents have a blast, but they also got quite a workout batting the balloons back and forth over the net with pool noodles!

In celebration of National Nutrition Month, residents of The Village at Sprenkle Drive skilled care center enjoyed peanut butter milkshakes, shamrock shakes and fruit smoothies. In addition to being a delicious treat, milkshakes can add calories to the diets of older adults who may need help maintaining their weight. The nutrient-packed smoothies prepared by the Dining Services team were made with vanilla yogurt, fruit, honey and a small amount of orange juice.
