In celebration of National Nutrition Month, residents of The Village at Sprenkle Drive skilled care center enjoyed peanut butter milkshakes, shamrock shakes and fruit smoothies. In addition to being a delicious treat, milkshakes can add calories to the diets of older adults who may need help maintaining their weight. The nutrient-packed smoothies prepared by the Dining Services team were made with vanilla yogurt, fruit, honey and a small amount of orange juice.

The dining services team at The Village at Sprenkle Drive prepared 110 delicious Thanksgiving meals for residential living residents to purchase to-go or for delivery. Sous Chef Ozzie Valez made another type of special delivery when he rolled his turkey carving station directly to the doorways of assisted living, memory support and skilled care residents so he could carve their turkey to order. Residents had two meal options: slow roasted turkey with traditional stuffing, mashed potatoes with pan gravy and buttered corn or Applewood smoked ham with raisin glaze, candied sweet potatoes with marshmallow pecan topping and brown butter sage acorn squash. Each meal included a garden salad with apple cider vinaigrette and residents were treated to a delicious piece of pumpkin or pecan pie. Thank you to our team members who helped make Thanksgiving a little more special this year for our residents!

Unified in their purple attire and desire to support an important cause, a small team from The Village at Sprenkle Drive walked through their community to support the York Alzheimer’s Association 2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. With no large in-person gathering this fall due to the pandemic, the Alzheimer’s Association encouraged small teams to walk on their own to help raise much-needed funding for the battle against this devastating disease. While the teams were smaller and separate this year, residents and team members who participated or cheered from a distance were just as spirited! Thank you to everyone who helped organize fundraisers for this event throughout the year and to those who donated.
Through a curbside spaghetti lunch, The Village at Sprenkle Drive raised $743 for the Alzheimer’s Association! On Friday, June 26, residents and team members enjoyed spaghetti, a side salad and garlic bread with any donation. CURA Hospitality donated 64 lunches for the event.

Cura Dining Services team members are rock stars to the residents at The Village at Sprenkle Drive! Residents sent 94 cards, made a poster and posted balloons outside the Glatfelter Center with each team member’s name to show their appreciation for the great job the team has done preparing delicious meals and safely distributing them during the COVID-19 healthcare crisis. Jeff Cowoski, director of dining services, said the kind gesture brought a tear to his eye and meant a great deal to his staff.

Parades to Lift Spirits
Team members across our life plan communities help lift the spirits of residents with parades through their respective villages!
The Village at Shrewsbury hosted a parade at the community, providing an opportunity for team members to greet residents who they have missed seeing since this unprecedented health crisis began in early March. Residents clapped, waved flags, banged buckets with wooden spoons and held signs thanking staff. Team members laughed, honked their car horns, danced and waved. There is something special about a parade that lifts people’s spirits!
