Residents and team members at the skilled care center had some adorable visitors from Shear Heaven Alpaca and Merino Sheep Farm to help celebrate The Longest Day! One-year-old alpacas Aurora (Rory for short) and Pavo delighted residents and staff with their cuteness and pleasant demeanor. The faces of both residents and team members lit up in their presence!
Residents had a beautiful day at the car show and cookout! From a Pontiac Bonneville to an Oldsmobile Cutlass, residents enjoyed classic cars from the Chesapeake Region, Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA). While conversing with one another and admiring the vehicles, residents enjoyed hot dogs from the grill, popcorn, lemonade and ice cream bars!
Residential living residents put together their very own floral arrangement for Mother's Day! One resident worked as a florist in her lifetime, so it was an extra special experience to assemble her custom arrangement!
Residents enjoyed a Cinco de Mayo celebration! Everyone had a blast wearing their mini sombrero hats, shaking maracas and enjoying margaritas and the nacho bar!
Residents watched several fashionable, furry friends (and one with a shell) strut their stuff and strike a pose on the “catwalk” during last week’s Pet Parade and Fashion Show! One-by-one, team members and one resident paraded their pets past the smiling and adoring audience. A sulcata tortoise and rex guinea pig joined several of humankind’s best friends for a wild afternoon of fun and style!
Residents enjoyed a special visit from Creatures Big and Small! From turtles and snakes to pups and cats, there were many creatures to see. A big thank you to everyone who orchestrated this fantastic event!
Resident gardeners at The Village at Sprenkle Drive have begun preparing the Community Garden for a bountiful season! When it comes to gardening, preparation is key, and resident gardeners have already spent many hours prepping the soil and scattering seeds. The traditional summertime vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini and peppers will come later, but for now, resident gardeners are off to a fantastic start! If you are out and about on campus, swing by the Community Garden! Our resident gardeners have been hard at work!
Resident volunteers were honored during the April Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers enjoyed a delicious meal and great conversation with their fellow volunteers. A big thank you to Bob Gibson, Volunteer Services coordinator, for orchestrating this event. Also, thank you, volunteers for faithfully and unselfishly sharing your time, talents and gifts to benefit residents at The Village at Sprenkle Drive!
Residents of our memory support care neighborhood had an egg-cellent time participating in a fun Easter egg hunt!
The “It Takes a Village” carnival at The Village at Sprenkle Drive started off with a splash! Residents and team members took turns and aimed fastballs at the target to dunk members of the leadership team, including Jeff Cowoski, director of Dining Services! The carnival, which in addition to the dunk tank included games, a cookout, popcorn and cotton candy, was held to celebrate and show appreciation for residents and team members.
Residential living residents enjoyed an afternoon tea party. They had tea cakes, cookies, cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, pitas with hummus, toast with roasted veggie spread and an assortment of danishes. A big thank you to the Life Enrichment and Dining Services team for orchestrating this event and preparing the food.
About a dozen resident volunteers volunteered their time to prepare the community garden for planting, nurture the plans, harvest the produce and staff the market. Proceeds from the market are donated to SpiriTrust Lutheran and local non-profit agencies.

With a few pointers from resident instructors Sandra Cooley and Beverly Hulbert, residents got the ball rolling on an indoor bocce tournament! Bocce is one of the most widely played games in the world and residents who had not previously played quickly caught on. As participants honed their strategy with guidance from the instructors, the competition was friendly but spirited throughout the afternoon!
