Hold that pose! Pilates is an effective, low-impact exercise practiced by many, including the residential living residents at The Village at Utz Terrace! Usually, Utz Terrace residents attend pilates class inside the fitness room; however, during beautiful, sunny mornings, they may practice their poses and movements outside on the patio for an extra daily boost of fresh air and sunshine. Tracy Schuman, residential living life enrichment leader, leads the class.

Shake, rattle and roll at the sock hop! Residential living residents from our community gathered together with the residential living residents from The Village at Shrewsbury for a sock hop to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. From the old-fashioned decorations and records, to the coke floats, the Terrace Overlook Restaurant was completely transformed for this 1950s event. After a delicious dinner of burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings and sodas, residents hit the dance floor dressed in their best 1950s outfits! Residents were entered into a drawing for the “best dressed” and many prizes were awarded to sock hop attendees. What a fun night of dancing, classic tunes and yummy eats! Kudos to the Life Enrichment team for orchestrating this fun event. It was a blast!

Resident Richard Schrader spoke to WGAL about his wood carving experiences! Richard Schrader, a resident of the skilled care center, spoke with WGAL News 8 about his experiences as a woodcarver. From intricately carved birds, to a 15-animal carousel that took three years to complete, Richard has carved many animals and has found great joy in his craft. How did Richard become a woodcarver? In 1975, he purchased a duck decoy kit and has continued woodcarving for nearly 50 years. Richard is also a detailed and skilled painter, and paints every carved masterpiece. Over the years, he hoped his wife would take over the painting portion of his craft, but she always reminded him that since he was the carver, he should be the painter, too! Richard’s collection of carved animals demonstrates his incredible talent as both a woodcarver and painter. On February 18 Richard’s collection was auctioned off at Porters Fire Company in Spring Grove, Pa.
Residents of the personal care residence assembled hot cocoa gift mugs for those at Changing Lives Homeless Shelter, which is a part of the Hanover Area Council of Churches.
